Among Other Things

The election season is here, and I want to see the presumptive candidates choose updated campaign slogans. Hopefully, their choices will capture the mess we’ve worked ourselves into and how they will lead us out of our predicament.

Below are possibilities to consider. You’re free to decide which slogan best fits which candidate. However, in the end, each candidate must choose their slogan. As you decide which candidate to support, you may want to judge how much wisdom they bring to their slogan selection.

· “Make America Great Again,” Again!

· I’m not old; I’m an Elder Statesman!

· Time to Swap the Swamp!

· Don’t vote for their bum; vote for ours instead!

· It’s too far gone to do any good!

· Fix what the past President messed up.

· Keep the other guy out!

· Persistently imperfect!

· A vote is a terrible thing to waste!

· I’m as young as I feel!

· Vote your conscience, bless your heart!

· What were they thinking?

· Buy my mug shot!

· If you think my mug is bad, look at the other guy’s!

· Vote! Thinking is not necessary.

· I can solve any problem; just don’t ask me how!

· It’s not my fault!

· I made the economy better.

· Not guilty!

· Win like you’ve never won before!

· Presidential pardons — An idea whose time has come!

· Only I can do it!

· China — Don’t get me started!

· From bad to worse and back again!

· A chip off the old block

· I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you!

· I remember the good old days — I was there!

· I’m on your side!

· Vote for me and get what you deserve!

Three haiku for good measure

They come, and they go.
But if they refuse to go?
Then, move them along.

They need a slogan.
A candidate without one?
Should be avoided.

How can we decide,
When they’ve done the job before?
Maybe their record?
